Athletics Masterclasses usually last around 45 minutes to an hour, or if different, the length of a school lesson/activity.
Emily vsited Bristol Grammar School in 2017 to deliver an Athletics masterclass to a group of year 10 of students. Emily began her masterclass by taking the students through a number of specific sprint drills, which Emily would do before every track session as well as each race. Once the students were warmed up and had an understanding of the sprint drills, the students were then taught the differences in the baton exchanges of the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
The students were given time to practice the baton exchanges in pairs or small groups during which time Emily went round each group providing help if it was required and answering any questions the students had.
An Athletics masterclass wouldn’t be complete without a race, and so to finish the session, Emily split the group into two teams for a couple of fun and competitive relay races. This encouraged the students to support each other and put into practice everything they had learnt during the session.
