One of the most popular requests from Schools/corporations is for Emily to be a guest speaker at a special event. This could include award ceremonies, school/college lectures, or even an after-dinner motivational speech.
After the Rio Olympics in 2016, Daunstey’s school in Witshire contacted Emily asking her to provide a motivational and inspirational talk to a number of sports scholars, their parents, as well as a selection of teachers. Emily spoke for around 30minutes about her experiences at the Olympic Games in Rio and what it took in order to get there, including the highs and the lows of being an elite athlete.
Emily showed videos from the Games and included a ‘show and tell’ table where students, staff and parents could get up close and personal to Emilys’ international medals, Great Britain Kit, her Olympic Bronze Medal winning sprint spikes as well as a selection of her training kit.
At the end of the talk, Emily provided a 30 minute question and answer session where students could ask Emily anything extra they wanted to know in perhaps a little more depth. As Emily was successful at sport while still studying either at school or University, students felt they could relate to her, and wanted to find out from Emily herself how she managed to balance both her academic demands as well as her sporting desires, and how she was able to achieve in both.
“Emily was a fantastic guest speaker at our school. From the moment she arrived, she was vibrant, enthusiastic and approachable. She gave our pupils a valuable insight into what it takes to achieve at top level sport as well as the winding path that can lead from the varied programme of school sport into an elite environment. The talk and Q&A session we received left our pupils, many of whom were sports scholars, feeling motivated and driven to follow their own path with more focus and perseverance.”
